A late 18th century portrait of a young mariner, rendered in deep tonal layers with a restrained, direct gaze. The composition is classic and formal—dark ground, high collar, brass buttons.
Measures 22.75” H × 30.25” W
Surface wear throughout reveals the passage of time: areas of paint loss, visible craquelure, and scattered abrasions across the canvas. The dark wood frame shows minor edge wear and small chips consistent with age. The patina is evident and intact, contributing to its authenticity and presence.
