Ecoprinting with Hellenius Botanicals
Ecoprinting with Hellenius Botanicals
Hosted at the Erica Tanov Atelier
Sunday September 13
2-5 PM
1808 Fifth Street Berkeley, CA 94710
Join us and Hellenius Botanicals for an afternoon devoted to the alchemy of natural dyeing, where fresh and foraged leaves and flowers are transformed into lasting impressions on silk. Together, we will create a one-of-a-kind 21" × 21" silk scarf to wear and treasure.
In this workshop, Hellenius Botanicals will guide participants through the process of creating floral prints that echo the outlines of the flowers used to make them. Each piece is a mirror of the natural world, a reflection of our planet’s bountiful flora. Dyed with a unique combination of flowers, minerals, and gathered botanicals, every scarf carries the distinct character of the plants that shaped it. Thoughtfully arranged, rolled, and gently steamed, these natural materials yield a perfectly imperfect object, made by hand with love.
While the scarves are steaming, we will pause to enjoy floral spritzes and a light bite, and Hellenius Botanicals will share a few naturally dyed pieces and other favorites available for purchase.
All materials will be provided. No experience is necessary—only a sense of curiosity and a willingness to be surprised.
All ticket sales are final and non-refundable.
About Hellenius Botanicals
Hellenius Botanicals is the creative collaboration of Finnish artist Anna von Hellens and her daughter, Maya. Based between Berkeley, California and Chennai, India, Anna’s work spans botanical dyeing, textiles, jewelry, ceramics, and clothing design, all guided by a distinctive sensitivity to color inspired by the landscapes of Finland and the vibrant textile traditions of India.
Together, Anna and Maya create one-of-a-kind botanical prints using flowers, leaves, and natural dyes. Rooted in a shared love of nature, craft, and slow making, Hellenius Botanicals transforms ephemeral plant materials into lasting works of art, blending Anna’s intuitive imagination with Maya’s thoughtful, hands-on approach.
