Eulogy x Hannah Franco Natural Perfume — Alethia
Derived from the Greek concept of truth or "unforgetting," the Alethia scent invites reflection on the masks we wear and the roles we play. These constructed identities have outsized power over the way we live our lives and the worth we assign ourselves. In moments of authentic revelation—when we shed these masks—we reach through the veil and remember our infiniteness.
In Alethia, Frankincense serves as a bridge to ethereal worlds. Black pepper sharpens awareness. Smoky Choya Raal symbolizes the burning away of all artifice to reveal the truth that has always been there.
Each Eulogy x Hannah Franco scent is housed in a one-of-a-kind wood and resin box handcrafted by Hannah Franco. The lid can be removed and displayed—an original work of art in its own right. For further information or to choose a specific box, please contact us at shop@ericatanov.com
15 ml | Box measures 3.75" x 3.5" x 2.5" D.
All perfume is final sale.
About the Collaboration
At its heart, this collaboration is a conversation between artists—an effort to understand and share the profound process of making, to revel in it, and to venture further into the creative process than either artist might go alone.
Carmen Rose is an olfactory artist who uses scent to celebrate, honor, and eulogize the people and places that move her. Working with a palette of pure botanical ingredients, she creates invisible portraits that capture the essence of people, places, and ideas beyond the visual realm.
Hannah Franco is an Oakland-based fine artist whose paintings draw inspiration from her grandmother's quilt-making practice. Her work positions itself within a lineage of "women's work"—traditional crafts that have long brought beauty and function into our lives and homes. These crafts are, and have always been, art.
Hannah and Carmen conceive of their collaboration as an exercise in artistic translation. The word "synesthesia" originates from Greek roots: syn, meaning "union," and aesthesis, meaning "sensation"—a union of the senses. In art, synesthesia becomes an invitation to blur boundaries between sensory experiences.
This synesthetic vision takes tangible form in their collaborative works. The perfumes function as olfactory companions to the paintings—portals through which viewers can enter and explore the emotional landscape Hannah captures on canvas. Fragrance becomes a medium for artistic expression, translating visual elements like color, contrast, texture, and form into an aromatic experience.
The paintings are complete as visual works; the perfumes stand alone as olfactory compositions. Yet together, they offer two ways to experience the same artistic investigation into family legacy, women's work, and the relationship between tradition and personal expression—each complete in its own sensory realm while sharing conceptual DNA.
