Meiji Period Japanese ship chest/safe box (funa tansu), crafted from darkened wood and wrapped in hand-forged iron hardware. Once used to store valuables, its compact, architectural form is as sculptural as it is functional. The intricate ironwork reveals exquisite craftsmanship, with a single handle at the top and an ornate lock plate at front.
