1930s Siamese Chada (Mongkut) Headdress
An extraordinary Siamese Chada (Mongkut) headdress dating to the 1930s, adorned with mirrored glass, floral filigree, and intricate metalwork. Traditionally worn in Thai royal and ceremonial dress, its soaring tiered form symbolizes Mount Meru, the sacred mountain at the center of the universe.
From the Estate of Margaret G. Huntington, by descent from Marian Prentice Huntington, who acquired the headdress during a world voyage in 1935–1936 and brought it home to San Francisco.
In beautiful vintage condition. Wear consistent with use and age. Surface oxidation and patina present throughout the metal work. Minor losses, bends, and wear on some decorative elements. Mirrored elements feature scattered wear and oxidation. Please review photographs carefully, as they form part of the condition report.
