SAMMA

hanna sandin is a sculptor based in new york city. She began samma in 2009, with a single piece- a simple cotton rope with a cluster of machined brass triangles. her work has been featured in nylon, ny times, ny mag, vogue, t magazine, and much more.

elemental lines and simplified shapes in brass, bronze, copper, gold, and silver — combine. patterns based on stacking, bundling, interlocking, and weaving primary shapes make tactile, sculptural pieces. repetition is broken by slight variations, either in color or in structure, lending a warmth and individual touch. seriality and standardized construction are the basis of a lexicon of shapes and materials that reference both modernism and vernacular forms of adornment.
