Late 19th century Caucasian Kazak Rug

Striking antique Caucasian Kazak rug featuring all-over woven geometric designs, such as the traditional Ramshorn and Flower motifs, in a harmonious palette of beiges and browns on a field of blues. Framed by ornate borders of curled Ramshorn and Wheel of Life motifs.

Antique Caucasian rugs express the deep joy and ingenuity present in the tribespeoples weaving them. Working close to the earth with small, transportable looms, Caucasian tribespeople wove striking, entirely unique textiles in geometric, motif-splashed designs. Using almost exclusively natural dyes — due to the Caucasus physical remoteness and isolation — Caucasian rugs are instantly identifiable given the weavers' vibrant, daring uses of color.
